Introduction

The CIA is a certification and professional development programme offered by the Institute of Internal Auditors, US for auditors who wish to enhance their competency and professionalism required in the field of Internal Auditing. The demand for the CIA professionals is high, given the amendment of the Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance that requires all listed companies on Bursa Malaysia to set up their respective internal audit functions. Also, there is a need to constantly meet the global professional standards issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors.

Course Outline
 
The CIA courses is offered in four parts, as follows:
 
(1) Part 1 - The Internal Audit (IA) Activity's Role in Governance, Risk, and Control
 
(2) Part 2 - Conducting the Internal Audit Engagement
 
(3) Part 3 - Business Analysis and Information Technology
 
(4) Part 4 - Business Management Skills
 
Examination Format
 
There is one exam per part, with each consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions. Candidates are given two hours and forth-five minutes to complete each part of the exam which is administered by computer-based testing (CBT). The exam can be taken in any sequential order of parts.
 
Entry Requirements
 
The CIA candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree or professional accountancy qualification such as ACCA, ICAEW, CPA or their equivalent.

Candidates with CA (ICAEW), ACCA/FCCA (ACCA), CPA (MACPA) or their equivalent will receive the CIA Professional Recognition Credit (PRC). On passing Parts 1, 2 and 3, they will have satisfied the exam requirement for the CIA.
