Mr Teo Ee Sing, founder and Executive Director of the Financial Courses Division of Sunway University College, also known as SUNWAY-TES, speaks to Accountant Key about his personal life.
What would be your greatest achievement so far?
It would be my greatest achievement and also of SUNWAY-TES when we officially managed to secure the premier plus status back in year 2003, just 3 years after ACCA came up with the award to quality tuition providers all around the world. SUNWAY-TES was the first tuition provider outside UK to proudly clinch this award, whereby stringent criterias have to be fulfilled in order to qualify for the award.
Myth 1: If you like numbers or counting, you will do extremely well in accounting.
Fact 1: Accounting is more than being ‘bean counters’ or ‘walking calculators’. They do not work out complex mathematical equations or algebraic formulae; those would be the work of mathematicians. Accounting only involves simple additions, subtractions, divisions, multiplication and a few formulas. The catch is getting the right numbers to carry out the calculation. Most accounting work encompasses report writing, analysis of figures and interpretation of the financial state of the company.
Are you a working adult? Do you find yourself wandering home exhausted and blurry at 3 am each day, and then trudging out of bed at 7am the next day to work? Has your office become your first home instead of your nice cosy apartment? Do you feel like the initial bite of the work bug is causing you to be in a zombie-like-state almost all the time?
